Pantokrator

The Holy Monastery of Pantocrator was founded by Alexius Comnenus and was again restored by Patriarch Callistus I, in 1362. The icon of Pantokrator Ruler of All, today is in the Hermitage Museum of Saint Petesburg.

The monastery was extended in 16th century with funds supplied by princes of Dunabian Provinces. The katholikon, dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Saviour was painted in 14th century and again repainted in 1854. The bell-tower was built in 19th century. The main icon of the Pantokrator is Our Lady Gerontissa. Its library contains 350 manuscripts and 3500 books both in greek and turkish language.
